Reading

Read aloud to students: books may be developmentally appropriate but above reading level. Engage students during reading with activities, make connections, predictions and model how to use good reading strategies.
¨ Shared reading: model fluent reading of difficult texts, students see the text as teacher reads, use it for writing activities, phonics etc., students take turns of they are fluent. “popcorn reading”.
¨ Guided reading: small group reading, silently of fluent, softly of reading with buddy and teacher observes what strategies are being used to read and the success of their attempts. Use this to help guide future lessons.
¨ Partner Reading: read with older student or partner and work together to decipher the words. It is a social activity, providing support to each other.
¨ Independent reading: read on their own once they gain fluency. Most authentic type of reading
