The rainforest is dying

Aditya Sharma

You know about rainforests? They are the world's largest forests. They're the world's rainiest places. Rainforests are often found near the equator or near mountain ranges.

Millions of plant and animal species have been discovered in the rainforest, and many more are yet to be discovered. 31% of the world's land area is forests, and many plants contain medicines that can cure various illnesses.

But the rainforest is dying. The wood that the trees have is very good, and the demand is high. The forests are being cut down at an astounding rate. We cut down 29 million trees each day! But we plant only ten thousand a day! At this rate, we could risk losing the entire rainforest within a century! We would also risk millions of species that call the rainforest their home.

29 million trees are cut down each day, 4 billion are cut down each year. That is too much! We need to do something!

International organizations are doing a lot to stop deforestation and save the rainforest, but the figure is still too high. Governments have put strict laws to save the rainforest, but I think that the main way to save the rainforest is by spreading information. Kids should also be taught about the rainforest and why it needs saving in school. There should also be major campaigns that will spread awareness, and people should be encouraged to plant trees in their homes.
