Virginius, a wealthy knight, has a beautiful daughter named Virginia who is recognized by a judge named Appius who will do any thing to have her. He comes up with a plan with a "churl" named Claudius who says Virginia is a run away slave. Her real father must bring her to court. Virginius goes to tell his daughter, he must kill her to protect her honor. She agrees, and he cuts off his daughter's head.Virginius takes the head to court where Appius demands execution for murder. The population disposes of the corrupt official and Appius kills himself in jail. Claudius was supposed to be hanged, but Virginius decided to show mercy and exile him.

SATIRE AND COMEDY/COMMENTARY

  • Virginius adores his perfect daughter and then kills her even though it was just to protect her honor
  • Judges are supposed to be morally upstanding people who defend the truth, this judge was creepy
  • Everyone died except Virginius when he's the only one who really committed an actual crime

  • What is something people would rather die than do...
  • Maybe like smoking they keep doing it even though it will kill them
  • Drugs;because people would rather kill themselves than face reality
