The Patriot

  • Guerrilla warfare was potrayed in the movie on multiple accounts.
  • Benjamin Martin and his two young sons took out a small platoon using the tactic of guerrilla warfare.
  • Later in the movie when Ben becomes the leader of the militia they use this tactic to take over platoons in fields and in the woods.
  • The background of this slide is directly from the movie, showing the use of Guerrilla warfare in the "ghost" scene.

HISTORY

  • Guerrilla warfare is the main thing that saved the patriots and their freedom.
  • Guerrilla warfare is when an army or group hides and fights tactically.
  • Back in the time period of the American revolution this was frowned upon.
  • Gentleman's warfare was customary, when each army lined up and shot at each other.
  • Today in our time period we use Guerrilla warfare. (shown in the background)

The Patriot

  • In the movie Gabriel is shown writing a letter to his family during the winter at valley forge.
  • The movie shows the soldiers freezing and struggling to stay alive.
  • This background depicts the brutality of the winter weather.

History

  • The American army camped at valley forge during the winter of 1777-78
  • The americans lost 2,000 of the 10,000 they had started with.
  • The soldiers endured extremely cold weather and some got frostbite.
  • Doctors were constantly trying to save limbs from amputation due to the severity of the frostbite.
  • Some soldiers froze to death because they didn't have enough clothes to stay warm.

The Patriot

  • In the film slaves are treated with more respect than one would've thought in this time period.
  • The children seemed to have a loving relationship with Abigail.
  • The workers in the fields were not treated poorly in any way.
  • In the background of this slide the slaves are explaining to the British that they are free men.

History

  • In history, it is told that there were slave drivers that beat the slaves if they didnt work fast enough.
  • The movies depiction of slaves was not correct with history.
  • In history slaves rarely had good relationships with their planters.
  • The background of this slide shows how it really was back in the day.

THE PATRIOT

  • In the movie the british are shown harming women and children.
  • lord Cornwallis gave colonel Tavington permission to do whatever is necessary to get rid of the militia problem.
  • Colonel Tavington did awful things to these mens families, burning people alive, and just right out shooting them.
  • The background of this slide shows the british burning a whole town full of people alive inside their church.
  • When this happened some men could not handle the loss and acted out of anger to seek revenge but were killed trying to.

History

  • Severe brutality to the families of the soldiers as shown in the film is not correct according to history.
  • Colonel Tavington is the character of the real life Colonel Banastre Tarelton.
  • This church burn scene did not happen in the revolutionary war, however it did happen.
  • It is based on an incident from WWII when Nazis burned French civilians alive in a church.
  • As both the British and the Americans violated the "rules of war" but the Americans did it more.

THE PARIOT

  • In the film Benjamin Martin was a passionate, single father and he tried to refrain from fighting.
  • After the death of his son, Thomas, He could not refrain any longer.
  • He was shown as a very intelligent general and a great leader.
  • The background of this slide show his passion and his fierce war side.
  • this picture was taken as he gets revenge for Thomas' death.

HISTORY

  • In the film Benjamin Martin is the character of Francis Marion but with mixed qualities of others.
  • The other people that he was made from was : Elijah Clarke, Daniel Morgan, Andrew Pickens, and Thomas Sumter.
  • "The Ghost " scene and nickname came from Francis Marion, who was the main real life person of the character.
  • The background of this slide is a picture of Francis Marion.
