The Patriot
Guerrilla warfare was potrayed in the movie on multiple accounts.
Benjamin Martin and his two young sons took out a small platoon using the tactic of guerrilla warfare.
Later in the movie when Ben becomes the leader of the militia they use this tactic to take over platoons in fields and in the woods.
The background of this slide is directly from the movie, showing the use of Guerrilla warfare in the "ghost" scene.
3.
HISTORY
Guerrilla warfare is the main thing that saved the patriots and their freedom.
Guerrilla warfare is when an army or group hides and fights tactically.
Back in the time period of the American revolution this was frowned upon.
Gentleman's warfare was customary, when each army lined up and shot at each other.
Today in our time period we use Guerrilla warfare. (shown in the background)
4.
The Patriot
In the movie Gabriel is shown writing a letter to his family during the winter at valley forge.
The movie shows the soldiers freezing and struggling to stay alive.
This background depicts the brutality of the winter weather.
5.
History
The American army camped at valley forge during the winter of 1777-78
The americans lost 2,000 of the 10,000 they had started with.
The soldiers endured extremely cold weather and some got frostbite.
Doctors were constantly trying to save limbs from amputation due to the severity of the frostbite.
Some soldiers froze to death because they didn't have enough clothes to stay warm.
6.
The Patriot
In the film slaves are treated with more respect than one would've thought in this time period.
The children seemed to have a loving relationship with Abigail.
The workers in the fields were not treated poorly in any way.
In the background of this slide the slaves are explaining to the British that they are free men.
7.
History
In history, it is told that there were slave drivers that beat the slaves if they didnt work fast enough.
The movies depiction of slaves was not correct with history.
In history slaves rarely had good relationships with their planters.
The background of this slide shows how it really was back in the day.
8.
THE PATRIOT
In the movie the british are shown harming women and children.
lord Cornwallis gave colonel Tavington permission to do whatever is necessary to get rid of the militia problem.
Colonel Tavington did awful things to these mens families, burning people alive, and just right out shooting them.
The background of this slide shows the british burning a whole town full of people alive inside their church.
When this happened some men could not handle the loss and acted out of anger to seek revenge but were killed trying to.
9.
History
Severe brutality to the families of the soldiers as shown in the film is not correct according to history.
Colonel Tavington is the character of the real life Colonel Banastre Tarelton.
This church burn scene did not happen in the revolutionary war, however it did happen.
It is based on an incident from WWII when Nazis burned French civilians alive in a church.
As both the British and the Americans violated the "rules of war" but the Americans did it more.
10.
THE PARIOT
In the film Benjamin Martin was a passionate, single father and he tried to refrain from fighting.
After the death of his son, Thomas, He could not refrain any longer.
