PRESENTATION OUTLINE

I- Irony
Irony is pretty frequent in the story. One example is when Johnny looks like he's having the time of his life in the middle of a life or death situation. He looks happy dead center of a abandoned burning down church. Another example is after Ponyboy escapes the fire he smokes a cigaret. The item that started the fire and after inhaling smoke from the fire he inhales smoke from a cigaret. To feel relief pony boy uses the same thing that caused him pain moments ago.

J- Jumps
Ponyboy had a close call. When he got jumped by socs he could have been harmed, scared, mentally and physically, for life. But he had fellow greasers he knew near by, just by fortune. Johnny wasn't so lucky. Found bloody, bruised, and scared, his friends that found him in the alley saw what socs were capable of. After that Johnny was never the same. When the story refers to Johnny as the groups pet it's not because he's weak but because of what he's suffered from that fateful jump.

K- Karma
The idea that do good things, good things will happen to you. Do bad things, however, and bad things will happen to you. If karma is real then it's apparent in the story. Bob beat on Johnny, so bob dies. Bad to bad. Johnny kills bob, so Johnny is set on the path to critical condition in a hospital. Bad to bad. Johnny saves children's lives in a fire at the church, his deed is recognized and his sentence for killing bob will be less severe. Good to good. If karma is real then it is the master judge of greasers and socs, either awarding them for their actions or harming them.

L- Losses
Ponyboy realizes that socs and greasers aren't all that different. They all go through the same things, drama, trouble, and losses. The greasers might loss Johnny. Johnny lost his ability to walk. The soc, Randy, lost his best friend, Bob. Cherry lost her boyfriend, Bob. Bob lost his life. Darry almost lost Ponyboy. Greasers and socs alike, they all know and feel grief, grief and losses.

M- Maverick
Dally has his way of doing things. This way isn't always in line with what others say or even what the law says. Dally thinks for himself. The rebel amongst rebels, the individualist in a group of outsiders. He's a trouble maker and he enjoys being one.

N- Normal
Ponyboy knows he's not normal. He's a greasers and that's ok. But what's new is that the once perfectly normal socs aren't as normal as pony boy previously perceived. When pony boy meets cherry she says that things are bad every where. When pony boy talks to randy he realizes there human too, with there own set of conflicts and problems. He realizes that no one is normal, neither greasers nor socs. No one is normal, no one is similar to the next.

O- Outsiders
Greasers aren't outsiders because of where they live, what they do, or even who they are around. These all have some, but little, affect though. What makes greasers outsiders is who there are. It's not a bad thing. The world may turn it's back on them but they always got each other's back covered. They have each other and there self. Being an outsider is what Ponyboy and his friends are proud of, especially dally.

P- Purpose
Johnny was on the brink of suicide. But not now. On the cliff of life Johnny stared death in the face, wondering if he should join death as a friend or continue fighting and not go with him. When Johnny saved those kids from the burning church he looked back from the cliff. For the first time he saw something. He saw what he hasn't seen before, he saw what he hasn't done yet, and he knew what to do. On the very edge of the crumbling cliff Johnny started to rebel against death and his decision. He had a purpose again.

Q- Quiet
Books are silent giants. Some louder than others. The outsiders is one of the loudest. Father Time and Mother Nature love to quiet stories all the time. Letting time destroy them through ages or natural disasters take ahold of them, burning or burring these giants.
The outsiders is a story that can't be silenced. It won't be silenced. It will live on throughout the generations, telling its story countless times, affecting lives of people far into the future. The Outsiders is NOT quiet.
