PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE NORMANS

BY - EMAAN ALLAWALA

The Beginning

They were descendants of the Vikings who carved out a state on the peninsula of Normandy in France in the Ninth Century. They descended from the Viking conquerors, but lived in Normandy, France. Willam was made king on top of everyone and lord of the vassals. Willam kept many old Saxon systems but also made many innovations to the government

Norman Invasion

William the Conqueror was the leader of the Normans. The reason England was so successful was because they had a great leader, William the Conqueror. He conquered lots of land, successfully dealt with rebellion, basically solved many problems and created new things for the kingdom. The Battles of Hastings, Stamford Bridge, and Senlac were the three main battles fought during the Norman conquest of England.

The End

The Normans faced many challenges within their own courts as originally dukes tried to have absolute power of the area and split it up into their own states. They greatly limited the rights of the people. This Norman society was taken over by the Normans of England who introduced Norman feudalism with kings as the main rulers instead of dukes. In both kingdoms the court faced great pressure from citizens wanting to go on their own indepedent paths at the expense of the kings. They faced external pressures from each other as the Normans tried to expand and the Capetians fought back.
