PERSIAN WAR

  • Persians wanted a larger empire and control over trade
  • Attacked by sea
  • There were a few persian invasions but they all failed

PELOPONNESIAN WAR

  • Started because of fear of Athens growing power
  • At first Athens was the stronger side
  • By the end of the war Sparta was victorious
  • Athens would never be that powerful again

ROMAN WARS

  • Romans try to conquer sicily
  • Greeks try to help the carthaginians
  • Rome gets mad at greece
  • By 146 BC greece is a roman province

THE HOPLITE

  • The basic greek infantry man
  • Had to buy own armor and weapons
  • Spearman swordsman
  • Archer/missile units
  • Spartans trained at young age

THE NAVY

  • Greece had a strong navy
  • They used large long ships called galleys
  • The navy came in handy in the persian invasions

  • The greeks had
  • Siege towers and rams
  • Rode elephants into war
  • They even had flame throwers!
