Why Do We Need One?
Isaiah 1:3
"The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger,
but Israel does not know, my people do not understand."

God compares his people to an Ox and a donkey! he even says they are more stupid!

Isaiah 1:10
"Hear the word of the Lord,
you rulers of Sodom;
listen to the instruction of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!"

God said we are corrupt as Sodom and Gomorrah! God ended up destroying the evil city of Sodom.

God is SICK OF IT!
Isaiah 1:11
“The multitude of your sacrifices- what are they to me?” says the Lord.
“I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure
in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats."

When you do something bad, when you disobey, or when we break a rule and get caught we make excuses or we say sorry!
Sometimes we say sorry not because we are actually sorry, but because we just want to get out of trouble.
The jews were doing the same thing and God said Enough! God doesn't want the "sorry's", He doesn't want the excuses.

God Said Enough!

Because of our sins, because of our lame excuses and our inadequate "sorry's", we need a final payment!

The Servants Sacrifice
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Mark 10:45
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

When we sin against god we deserve death. But God served us by giving his life as ransom for ours!

Isaiah 50:6
"I offered my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face
from mocking and spitting."
Isaiah 53:5
"But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed."

The servant was mocked, spit on, and they tore his beard out. (bring out tape and do example)

He was pierced (bring out nails) and punished so that we could be healed. Thats true sacrifice.

What Does This Mean?

  • God was sick of our sins, our excuses, and our "sorry's".
  • We needed an ultimate payment for our sins.
  • The Sacrificial Servant would give himself as the ultimate payment.
  • Jesus was the Sacrificail Servant!
