WHY PEOPLE MOVED TO CITIES
Farms got bigger, and were owned by less people
People in debt and out of work needed jobs in factories
Factories were located in cities, so people moved there for easier access
Cities also had more variety of people, food, and goods
Factory jobs were plentiful

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions were almost always horrible
Miners were sent into blatantly dangerous places
Factories were hot and machines were dangerous
Pay was rarely good enough for the work
People were worked long hours, up to 18 hours a day

Most companies wanted to completely eliminate all competition
Their goal was to not only beat their competition, but to be the only company

Most companies bought out competitors, or sabotaged them until they were done.
