How the gold rush happened
James Marshall found small nuggets of gold in the American River.
At this time, The Treaty of Hildalgo officially made California a Territory
One newspaper, The Californian, Spread the word of gold in the west.
In the east, the newspaper, New York Herald, spread the word of gold.
Thats when Ninety thousand migrants, or the Forty-Niners headed to CA.

The water was great until mercury and other bacteria got into the water.
This killed a lot of miners. Manly most of them were Indians.
All the food was very expenisive. Costing more than the food we buy today.
They usually eat beans and bread.

Its was very hot and sunny.
A lot of trees were being cut because or the mining.
Since the new of mining, Hydralic mining, it caused erosion on hillsides.
Multiple dead bodies because of greed of one another.

Took half of the population in start of the gold rush.
Most of the time, was brutally tortured there gold by white men.
Whatever they had, it was taken away.
Everyone wanted the Indians to be exterminated.
They were soon were died at fast rates by dieseases of contaminated water.

They came to the gold rush in 1849
Ninety thousand migrants, such as white americans Chinese, Chileans,
Peruvians, Mexicans, Europeans and Australians were in this group.
They made the best of the little things. Such as a bottle of whiskey.
They lived in a harsh place, but only some got fortune.

Arrived in california in 1850.
All they wanted was gold so they can leave more wealthy.
They melted there gold to pots so the bandits wont steal them.
They were taxed with the Foreign Miners Tax, which was just $20
tax on every foreign miner.

The women were very scarce. Only 3% of the population was woman!
Only some woman went to California with there family, but most stayed home.

Almost every single race had problems and weaknesses.
The indians almost got eradicated.
The woman were hit on most of the time.
The food and water were really nasty.
They all had equally harsh lives.
