A Garden

  • The Kingdom of God is like a garden
The Kingdom of God is like a garden because it is abundant and lush and there are many different types of flowers and plants in the garden. The flowers and plants are like the different people and the garden is the Kingdom.

Treasure Chest

  • The Kingdom of God is like a treasure chest.
The Kingdom of God is like a treasure chest because it is full of surprises and great new gifts sent from the Lord.

Jawbreaker

  • The Kingdom of God is like a jawbreaker.
The Kingdom of God is like a jawbreaker because it has many different layers of information and love from God which can be the flavors in the candy. The kingdom of God is also like a jawbreaker because it is a sweet delightful candy but if you bite into it, it will hurt your teeth just like if you sin it will hurt your heart.

Matthew 28:3

  • His appearance was like lightneing, and his clothes were white as snow.
The simile is explaining the image of the Lord as he was risen and that he is astonishing and great. The metaphor is also explaining the Lord rising from the dead and that he was so pure, it was as if he was snow.

Psalm 102:6

  • I am like a Pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.
These similes are used in a prayer to God and the speaker is saying that they are alone just like a pelican would be in the wilderness and an owl would be in a desert. The reader is also emphasizing the emptiness before God.
