PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE IRON YOUTH

By Ashlyn Dosch

WE WERE TOLD THAT WAR IS GLORIOUS.

Do they know the dreams I have at night?

EXPLOSIONS

Bullets flying through the air. Seeing so many people die.

Seeing the men who have become your brothers shot, and bleeding out.

Do they know how being a soldier feels?
The long nights, where hunger kept you awake to save the scraps you have left from the rats.

The rats, oh the rats

They were soldiers in their own right, fighting us for those measly bread crumbs.

They ate better than we did.

DO THEY KNOW HOW YOUNG I AM?

I only know what Mother and Father told me, what my school teachers told me...

They told us that fighting for your country is noble
They told us that it is honorable to die for your country
They told us that it is all for the greater good and peace of our country

Is it moral for so many to die?
Is it virtuous for so many young men to die with such fear in their eyes?

I wish I could grow old, have kids, and be a father...

But that is the glory of war

It takes away so many lives, at the cost for the greater good of the country

I am so young and no nothing of life, yet I know everything.
