PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE INSTITUTION NARRATIVE AND CONSECRATION

“The Holy Spirit has been invoked upon these gifts, and so the priest pronounces the words of the Lord which he gave to his Church at the Last Supper: “This is my Body, which will be given up for you. . . This is the chalice of my Blood.”

“Transubstantiation of the bread and wine is brought about. The word transubstantiation means “a change of substance.” The “accidents” of bread and wine (how they look, taste, and feel) remain the same; but the substance (what the bread and wine essentially are) has been changed”

THE ANAMNESIS, OFFERING, AND INTERCESSIONS

“The anamnesis (“remembering” and making present) begins with the Mystery of Faith (or Memorial Acclamation), in which we proclaim the Paschal Mystery of Christ and what it means to us.”

“recall all that Christ has done for us, and we offer his sacrifice to the Father”

“another epiclesis, still addressing the Father and calling on the Holy Spirit to make us one in Christ:”

“Intercessions for the entire Church follow, signifying that this Eucharist is celebrated in communion with the whole Church, the living and the dead, and with the pastors of the Church—the Pope, the local bishop, his priests and deacons, and all the bishops of the entire world.”

THE AMEN

“The Eucharistic Prayer ends with a Concluding Doxology, literally “words of praise,” beginning with “Through him, and with him, and in him . . .”
