PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The Hyperlinked Library

Library Users Matter

Libraries suffer from the misconception that they are irrelevant

Some libraries see this as opportunity to grow

Some libraries only want limited or one sided change

Libraries have something other

organizations don't have

A Heart

Libraries were not created to make money

Libraries were created to serve people

It is the connections with people

that makes change possible

Changes can range from large as

renovating or building a library

to small as allowing people to use the library as a safe haven

Everything should be geared

toward the user experience

The community needs to be involved in the change

so the library can continue to thrive

Active engagement through hyperlinked communities

increases the chances of reaching all users

Use technology in a user friendly way

but not as a means to end but to enhance relationships

Not all users are able to use technology the same way

Build bridges for all to participate

By being transparent

all people feel valued and heard

Challenge yourselves to be familiar

with the unfamiliar

Build bridges with communities

who do not think libraries are for them

Invite all users to participate in the process

from the beginning to the end

Do not be afraid of gaming

Accept it as part of the learning culture

Libraries have had to change

either by circumstance

or by design

Library employees

are the soul of the organization

Library employees need to be part of the process

and not excluded from transparency
