The Hydra

The constellation

• The Hydra constellation contains Gamma, Alpha and Beta stars.
• The Hydra is the largest of the 88 constellations, it is 1303 sq degrees.
• The constellation shows the hydra as a large snake.
• Hydra borders 15 constellations, most known are Sextons, Leo, and Cancer. 
• There is a constellation called Hydrus, that is a male version of Hydra.

Mythology

• The Hydra is a Greek Monster.
• If you cut off one of it's five heads, two more will grow back. 
• The Hydra, or known as the Lernaean Hydra, was Hercules' second labor 
• Hercules killed the Hydra, despite the fact that it was meant to kill him  
• Gaea, the greek mother, placed it in the sky as a consellation when it died
