The Hot Zone is a suspenseful book about a new family of deadly viruses discovered in the African jungles and it is causing death throughout Africa as scientists try to figure out the source.

The virus is highly contagious and deadly, killing large numbers of people in Africa while other countries do what they can to help and protect themselves.

In Sudan of 1976, Ebola is rapidly spreading and killing many people living in the area. Ebola rapidly spreads throughout hospitals from the unsanitary equipment causing many people to die painfully.

Many people flee in fear of the virus which helps stop the spread of Ebola. The Ebola in Sudan subsides and fades away which could have been a global epidemic.

United States army biohazard scientists, Peter Jahrling and Tom Geisbert, discover a new strain of Ebola found inside a monkey research lab in Reston, Virginia. With a potential deadly outbreak on their hands, the US army now has to figure out a way to protect the public's health and safety.

The US army started an operation led by Nancy Jaxx, Jerry Jaxx, James Peters, Philip Russels, and many others who created teams of volunteers to enter the building, euthanize all the monkeys inside, exterminate all traces of Ebola, and gather samples of the dead monkeys.

The operation was successful and no one became infected with the virus. With more information of the new strain of Ebola, now named Ebola Reston, scientists discover that the strain of Ebola is not contagious to humans and only affects monkeys; however the virus can be spread through the air.

The book kept me interested by showing how terrible the virus is and that it is still threatening even today. It is almost untreatable and it kills almost everyone infected with it. The story also kept me interested by using suspense because you do not know what will happen next.

Another element of the book that made it interesting is that the book is nonfiction. The events found in the book have actually happened which gives it an element of interest fiction books do not have.

I think other people will enjoy this book because of its use of suspense and fear. Also, it has an interesting plot that will keep people reading the story. Readers will learn more about Ebola which more people should know about.

The Hot Zone, published by Anchor Books, has received the awards of New York Times Best Seller, McDermott Award in the Arts, the Overseas Press Club of America's Whitman Basso Award, and many more accolades.

Richard Preston makes The Hot Zone a great piece of literature with a great story. I suggest that everyone should read this book or else they are missing out on a great tale.
