  • Throughout China's histoy, powerful families called "dynasties" ruled it.
  • China has record of the longest empire, ever.
  • Art, culture, and religion were often tied together.
  • Ancient China's history goes back over 4,000 years.
  • Most lands were ruled by the feudal system.

  • Liu Bang (256 - 195 B.C.)
  • Lui Ying (195 - 188 B.C.)
  • Lv Zhi (188 - 180 B.C.)
  • Liu Heng (180 - 157 B.C.)

  • Han Dynasty started under Liu Bang in 206 B.C., after conquering the Qin Dynasty
  • Han Dynasty's main philosophy system was Confucius
  • The Han Dynasty thrived until 220 AD when it fell

Han Dynasty's Economy

  • The Han Dynasty established the Silk Road and thrived with trade with neighboring countries.
  • They mostly traded silk, livestock, and crops.
  • Their main trade partner was India

  • Such as: Paper, the seismograph, cast iron tools, and the wheel-barrow.
  • Also invented new and improved glazed pottery.
  • The hot air baloon was also invented during this time.

  • The government in the Han Dynasty was largely made of a combination of feudal structures and central bureaucracy.
  • The head of the dynasty was called the emperor
  • 20 ranks in social status

  • Woman were viewed inferior to men. They weren't given much respect.
  • Role was child bearing, child rasing, and chores.
  • Boys fought in civil wars, helped their mothers, or helped their fathers in the fields.

  • They were considered an intullectual pursuit
  • Established Silk Road, and traded along it.
  • Fine detailed pantings were often painted on wealthy people's tombs.
