THE ECONOMIC DOWNFALL

  • It started when Papa Doc began to rule Haiti.
  • Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere when Papa Doc was in rule.
  • Even after Papa Doc died and his succeeder (Bebe doc) fled, Haiti was still economically failing.

ECONOMY

  • THE AVERAGE PERSON EARNED $2(U.S.). Papa doc spent all the money paying his army (Tontons).
  • They were economically failing even before Papa Doc.

  • Bebe Doc fled to another country, but came back around 20 years later and he died on 2014.
  • Papa Doc died of natural causes which was surprising, because they expected him to get assassinated.
  • " I know the Haitian people because I am the Haitian people"- Francois Duvalier .

POLITICAL DOWNFALL OF HATI

  • It started when papa doc took over.
  • Due to papa doc ruining the economy the political side of Haiti became corrupt which caused foreign policy change.
  • Human rights where selective.

  • The economy was already bad but Duvalier made it worse.
  • After Papa Docs rule, his succeeder Bebe Doc ( Papa doc's son) was ruling Haiti.

U.N POLITICAL STAND

  • The U.N donated money after their earthquake.
  • They ranked it 149 out of 182 in the human development index.
  • The donation did not really help.

PAPA AND BEBE DOC

  • As we know they were terrible dictators.
  • Papa doc even practiced voodoo.
  • Bebe threw people in prison if they opposed him.

SOCIAL DOWNFALL

  • The Tontons the Duvaliers own army made everyone live in fear.
  • The whole Haiti wanted a coup on the government.
  • Many Haitians were in persecution and others who stayed were killed.
  • But only political opponents, not everyone.

  • The people were expecting Papa Doc to be a good president at first.
  • Duvalier was a training to be a doctor.

  • People lived in fear of them being killed for saying anything about the Duvaliers.
  • Haiti had no military the only thing close to a military were the Tontons, but they didn't protect the Haitians only Duvalier.
