WHO WAS INVOLVED?

-There are many answers to who built the Great Wall.

-It is said that the Emperor Qin Shihuang came up with the idea of building it. He had soldiers, common people, and criminals build it.

-Most people died during the construction of the Great Wall due to tough conditions and short time limits.

WHAT IS IT AND WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?

-The Great Wall was used as a defense against northern nomadic tribes and other potential enemies.

-During many dynasties, the wall was extended, modified, or repaired in sections.

-The sections were all given names and they were all created for protection.

-It now acts as a tribute to the Chinese who were responsible for building this wall.

WHEN IT HAPPENED?

-Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered construction of the Great Wall around 221 B.C.

-Some of the walls were built as early as 476 B.C.

-The Great Wall was complete in 700 B.C.

-Construction of the Great Wall was over 2,500 years ago.

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?


-The modern day Great Wall crosses Liaoning,Shaanxi, Sichuan, Jilin, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, and Gansu provinces. It also crosses Beijin, Tianijin, Inner Mongolia.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CHINESE HISTORY?

-The Great Wall is one of the greatest wonders of the world.

-Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 5,500 miles from east to west of China.

- The Great Wall has a history of more than 2000 years where some of the sections are now in ruins or have disappeared. However, it is still continues to be one of the most appealing attractions all around the world with its architectural grandeur and historical significance.















HOW IT IMPACTED CHINA?

-Some argue that reconstructing the wall would protect both an ancient symbol and an economy that thrives on.

-The Great Wall of China has become a symbol of the Chinese nation.

- Today its beautiful sites and amazing structure attract many people from around the world causing China's population to increase.

CAN THE GREAT WALL RELATE TO MODERN TIMES?
-The Great Wall was built as a fortification against invaders from the north and other areas. It was a method the Chinese used to protect themselves.

-Today, the United States uses different types of methods similar to the way the Chinese did to protect the country from something terrible occurring.

-Of course the methods are more advanced and may not take as long or require hundred of thousands of people.

INTERESTING FACTS:

-The Great Wall of China has been called the longest cemetery on Earth. Over a million people died building the Wall and archaeologists have found human remains buried under parts of the wall.

-The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure in the world.

-The Great Wall attracts around 50 million foreign visitors annually.
