WHAT WAS THE GESTAPO?
- Gestapo was Nazi Germany's feared secret police force
- Gestapo was under control of Himmler.
- The Gestapo was organized after the Nazi's gained power
- The Gestapo arrested and interrogated "enemies"
- It started April 26,1933
WHO WAS HIMMLER?
- Heinrich,Himmler was one of the most feared men of Nazi,Germany
- Himmler was a head of the SS.
- He was also Hitler's personal bodyguard
- Himmler was also in charge of concentration camps around Germany
HOW WAS THE GESTAPO RAN?
- The Gestapo could do whatever they wanted to
- Hitler's rule was that if you didn't say anything nothing would happen to you
- If you did get arrested, you had less than 3 minutes to pack and say goodbye
- Once you're at a cell you would sign form D-11
- After that you'd get sent to a concentration camp.
WHO USUALLY GOT ARRESTED?
- Anybody considered a "threat"
- People who joked about the Nazi party
- People who made fun of Hitler were arrested and killed
- Biblerforsher's were also arrested
- Homosexuals were arrested also.
HOW DID THE GESTAPO COME TO A END
- It ended when the war ended
- Many of the leaders were executed
- Heinrich,Himmler managed to escape.
- People believe Himmler ran off to South America.
- And thats where he lived undetected.
WHAT HAPPENED TO PEOPLE IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS
- Approx. 2,000,000 Jews died in the gas chambers
- 500,000 died due to starvation and diseases
- More than 4 million people died in camps
- More people died outside of the camp walls
