THE MOUND BUILDERS

  • The Adena,Hopewell,and Mississipians were the first people to make big cities.
  • They built big mounds out of the ground.Two of the groups buried jewelry,pottery, and their tools in the mounds.
  • The town of Cahokia ,Illinois, is a famous Mississipian site that has more than 85 mounds.

THE PUEBLO PEOPLE

  • The ancient pueblo people sometimes lived in villages that were dug into the side of canyons
  • They built underground rooms called kivas.
  • They built houses made of mud and stone.

TLINGIT

  • The Tlingit were one of the biggest American Indian groups in the Pacific Northwest.
  • They put dividers in their houses for different families in their clan.
  • They made clothes from bark to make boats and totem poles.

THE HOPI

  • In the southwest, the Hopi are one of the oldest Indian groups.
  • They grew squash,beans,and corn.
  • Corn was a part of every meal ,it was the staple for the Hopi.
  • The Hopi made clay pots and fired they're pots over coal to cook.
  • The Hopi had ceremonies to pray for lots of rainfall for crops.
