Egg in a Bottle Experiment Remixed

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The Final Presentation

Prepared for EDUC515 by Jayme Estep

BIG QUESTION:

Is it possible to get a whole egg into a smaller opening?
Teacher will present the question to the class with a box of matches, a piece of paper, an egg (boiled and raw), and a bottle with a smaller opening. The students will begin a discussion on whether or not it is possible, and why.

Dissonance: YouTube Video

Man tries unsuccessfully.
Teacher will show this video to engage their interest. The video shows a failed attempt at the experiment which will get the students excited about finding out whether or not it is actually possible. This is the cognitive dissonance element.

It's Possible...

But HOW?
The teacher will share with the class that they need to figure out if it is possible, and then share with the class on why it is or isn't.

pinterest

Students: research how to perform the experiment
Students will research the egg in the bottle science experiment on Pinterest.

NotabilitY

Students: Take notes on iPad on how to perform experiment
While they are researching the experiment they will take notes in Notability to use for creating their own egg in the bottle experiment.

Socrative

Students must pass safety quiz before experimenting
Students will take a quiz that address all important aspects of the egg experiment. If the student passes the quiz with a 100% they are cleared to begin the experiment. If they cannot pass the quiz then they need to discuss questions with teacher, and/or other classmates to gain understanding.

iMovie

Students will record and recreate the egg experiment
The students will record themselves doing the experiment, their reactions, and their thoughts throughout the process.

peer feedback

students comment on uploaded videos
The iMovies will be uploaded on YouTube, and students will watch each others experiments, and give them peer feedback.

Prezi

Students present challenges and successes with the experiment
Students will present what challenges they faced and share what they discovered about why the experiment worked, and what made it possible. If the experiment was a fail then those students will also share their challenges and successes. They will have the opportunity to observe other presentations that demonstrate what would have made their experiment a success.

phases of technology

  • Phase I: Haiki Deck & Prezi
  • Phase II: A: Socrative  C: Notability  E: iMovie
  • Phase III: Pinterest & You Tube
  • Dissonance: Video hook to engage students
  • Group work to inspire collaboration
This demonstrates how I covered each aspect of the Phases of Technology assignment.
