THE FEMALE REPRODUCTION SYSTEM

OVARIES

  • The ovaries are the female reproductive organs that produce eggs and the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
  • Ovaries release a mature egg (ovum) every month.

EGGS

  • Eggs are the sex cells of females and can be fertilized by sperm.
  • When an egg and sperm join, a new life begins.

THE PATH OF THE EGG

  • Once released from the ovary, the egg moves through the Fallopian tube towards the uterus.
  • The uterus is where the egg can be fertilized/developed.

FALLOPIAN TUBE

  • A Fallopian tube is a female reproductive organ that connects an ovary to the uterus.
  • (Egg travels through this to uterus)

UTERUS

  • A muscular organ about the size of a fist.
  • Fertilized eggs develop in the uterus.

CERVIX

  • The cervix is the narrow base of the uterus.

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS

  • Cystitis, vaginitis, delayed puberty, menstrual cramps, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), toxic shock syndrome, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, and cervical cancer. :(

HYGIENE

  • Always wipe front to back.
  • Exercise regularly/healthy diet.
  • Wash le area.
  • Change sanitary napkins/tampons every 4-6 hours
  • Have an annual exam.

  • You are born with all the eggs you will ever have.
  • (And you will never use all 6-7 million of them!)
  • The uterus contains some of the strongest muscles in the entire female body.
