  • Each gram of carbohydrate you consume will give your body 4 calories each gram of protein also gives body 4 calories. Each gram of fat, the most concentrated form of food energy, gives your body 9 calories.
  • Foods that are high in fiber include whole oats, long-grain brown rice, beans, broccoli, apples, figs, prunes, green leafy vegetables, and fruit and vegetables skins. The American Gastroenterological Association recommends that adults get an average of 30 to 35 grams of fiber each day. Currently American adults get an average of only 11 grams per day.
  • Women= should take 2,200 calories a day. Men=2,800 calories a day.
