PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The famous photograph of Che Guevara is an example of has been reproduced in many forms.

In Cuba, where Che is a national hero of mythic proportions, the photograph has been used in many government posters to affirm the origins of the Cuban state in its revolution.

The Che image has circulated not only as an icon of both revolutionary politics and leftist uprisings but also as an icon of the charisma of revolutionary heroes.

The fact that Guevara is known as “Che” rather than “Guevara” points to the intimate sense of loyalty if not possession that people feel toward him and his image.

The reproduction of this images also raises issues of copyright and ownership.

The socialist system of Cuba, the rights of photographer Korda to own the image of Che were limited.

I personally think that is up to the collectors to pay as much as they want for any specific image. Maybe it has a personal value, or they might just need it to accomplish a work and the only way to get the copyrighted image is buying it.
