In the second half of the 1900's, many European leaders and ordinary people never wanted to see such violence again, so they went about trying to make an alliance of all of the countries of Europe.
Critical Question:
What is an alliance?
What the E.U. is NOT:
NOT one country.
NOT a military alliance.
E.U. is:
"A political and economic partnership" between most of the countries of Europe that promotes democracy, human rights, and international cooperation.
E.U. provides:
One currency (the Euro).
The ability for all residents of an EU country to travel freely to another country in the E.U.
