Physical death wasn't His worst torment?

Crucifixion was intended to torture a person to death

The Romans never used it on one of their own citizens

It was so horrible that they eventually outlawed it's use

Yet, physical torment was the least of what Jesus suffered

If you want to know how much Jesus
loves you

The best way is to see ALL He was willing to suffer

He suffered in 3 areas:
body, soul & spirit

First, came His physical suffering

His Physical Suffering

• Outwardly, Jesus was beaten, spit upon, lashed
• Then, He was nailed to the cross and the torment of crucifixion began

• Inwardly, Jesus was afflicted with our diseases
• He fully bore ALL our pains and ailments

Then, came the suffering of His soul

• Outwardly, Jesus suffered insults, hatred and rejection
• Our sins were hurled against Him

• Inwardly, our sins were poured into Him
• He who never knew sin was now completely defiled by our sinfulness

Suffering of His Soul

Finally, came the suffering in His Spirit

• Made to be our sins, Jesus now experienced sin's punishing consequences
• Soul deadening, mind darkening destrucion

• Finally, the dreaded, supreme punishment -
• The desolating separation from His Father's loving presence

Physical suffering was enough to kill Jesus, the man from Galilee

It took all of this
to kill Jesus Christ,
the God-man

Why did He do it?

For love!

For love of His Father

and for love of us

He did what it took to bring us together

He is only
a prayer away

Jesus, Come into my life, come into my heart, and live your life in me

I give myself to You -
body, soul and spirit

Forgive my sins and lead me all the way to heaven
