The Credit card was invented by John Biggins and introduced through the Diner's Club in 1950.

Why?

• You wouldn't have to carry cash.
• If you forget money you're covered.

People had to pay off their credit by the end of each month.

The debit card was introduced in the mid 1970's.

In 1999, American consumers charged about $1.9 trillion on credit.

As of May 2015, Americans owe over $11.9 trillion in credit debt.
