  • Communism was centrally planned
  • Capitalism based on independent market forces
  • Communism redistributed to remove socioeconomic gaps
  • Capitalism had greater disparity between rich and poor
  • Communism= The Government     Capitalism=The People

containment

  • Part of the US Foreign Policy in the Cold War
  • Used to stop the spread of Communism beyond Russia
  • Soviets blockaded Berlin to drive out the west
  • Continued to fund Communist rebels in other countries
  • Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, Eastern Europe

The Kitchen debate

  • Series of discussions between Nixon and Khrushchev
  • Discussed the merits of capitalism and communism
  • Took place at an American Exhibit in Moscow
