ORIGINS OF THE COLD WAR
- Started after WWII
- Diminishing ties between the Soviet Union and US
- Both came out as Superpowers, took over wrecked Europe
- Conflicted on economic and political systems
- US favored Capitalism and Soviet Union Communism

HOW "COLD WAR" GOT ITS NAME
- although the US and Soviets had military conflicts
- They didn't engage in direct conflict
- Always avoided a direct clash of arms
- So came to be called COLD WAR

CAPITALISM VS. COMMUNISM
- Capitalism has free market and private ownership
- Communism has government controlled economy
- Almost no privately owned business
- Capitalism included liberalism, peoples right
- Communism enforced suppression, no civil rights
