THE TIBER RIVER

THE TIBER RIVER

  • Used to be called Albulula (because it was white)
  • Became a natural highway
  • Connected to Cloaca Maxima, the sewer system
  • 10 bridges were built over it

ROMAN FORUM

  • Center of Roman public life
  • Located between Palatine & Capitoline
  • Augustus completed the building of it
  • Currently open to public

THE TRIUMPHAL MARCH

  • Civil ceremony that honored success of a military commander
  • Started at Campus Martius which was just outside citys boundary, on the Tiber banks
  • Continued through the Circus Flaminius and passed by Capitoline and through Triumphal Gate
  • Then traveled towards the Circus Maximus, entered via sacra, and then the forum
  • Finally, the march ends as the people go up the Capitoline and to the temple of Jupiter
