Montresor buries Fortunato into the wall among the bones

Conflict

  • Man vs Man
  • Montresor wanted to seek revenge
  • Montresor convinced Furtunato to accompany him into the underground vaults
  • "... but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge"(Poe 61).

  • Montresor doesn't like Fortunato because of the many insults he has said
  • Fortunato did this many times and Montresor vows revenge

  • Irony-a broad term referring to the recognition of a reality
  • Fortunato means "fortune" 
  • at the end he dies which is not good fortune

  • Fortunato has a weakness and an attraction for wine
  • The reader knows his weakness and love for wine will play a major role
