THE CALAMITY

PROLOGUE

A low rumble arises from the back of the forest. Sky breathes in the fresh damp air. She gestures to her advisor, and watches the storm approach from her den on the cliff. A flash of fur came across the corner of her eye. She waited for a noise.. nothing. Must've been her imagination. Her ears perked, she heard something from afar. She left to her den and wondered what the sound was. Sky fell asleep and dreamt of memories that were triggered by the odd sound... The next morning she a walk to the voice of her advisor, " Sky, shall we tell the Packs about the approaching storm? ", she sounded hasty and nervous, " Patience, Misty, the gathering is in a few days, I don't think we're expecting a monsoon, be sure that my pack is ready for the gathering, bring who you will. "

CHAPTER ONE

SNOW
An excited little wolf is ready to start her training as an initiate wolf. Her fur bristled with excitement. It seemed like yesterday she said she wouldn't have the patience to wait until she was finally old enough to be an initiate. Many wolves backed out because the training was supposedly too hard. Snow knew she could handle it! Her heart stopped for a second.. she had spent too much time lost in her one thoughts, that she had forgotten all about training! She ran as fast as possible the wind howled in her ears as she launched herself across the clearing and into the training den. She ran into another wolf, he yelped in surprise as his course fur bristled. The silver tan wolf cautiously fixated his eyes on Snow with a low grumble in his throat. The mentor gave them both a glare before beginning. His high pitched but stern voice filled the room.
" INITIATES! " , a couple wolves were startled at how loud his voice was, " You take orders from me now. Not as a senior, higher ranked wolf, but as your mentor, " the den fell silent as all eyes were fixated on him, " Now, for our first lesson I want someone to show me a basic prey stance, " one wolf stepped forward, ears sagging and front paw off the ground and shaking, " Well, go on, " the little wolf assumed the position tail under her legs, " Aren't you forgetting something? " the pure black wolf froze, " I- I did? " she stammered, her murmurs were barely heard. The little wolf collapsed, her face full of terror and shock. The sound of violent hacking filled the room. Surprised yelps spread amount the initiates,
" Food poisoning?! " The mentor waisted no time, he rushed her to the Healer's den.

CHAPTER 2

The Setback
The mentor entered the den. Wisp, the Healer, froze, eyes widened. She gave a swift nod and rushed to her herbs. The scavengers returned from their trip and immediately dropped their parcels, with their fur standing on end, they rushed to help Wisp. The crowd of initiates murmured uneasily,
"The pack's never seen a food poisoning this bad," silence,
"What if our whole food supply has gone bad?" panicked yelps flooded the training den. The alpha hushed the initiates with a loud, sharp bark. They snapped to attention, some tripped of surprise, their tails up. Emotion clouded Blizzard's eyes,
"I know you're all scared. I've heard some talk about the food source being infected," his joules quivered with worry,
"Though that means more work for the scavengers." a few of the scavengers grunted in annoyance and turned their head away. A young muscular wolf burst out before Wisp, a paw length away from from her long mussel,
"THAT' S NOT FAIR!", his teeth were clinched and his ruff was up, " We Spent All Day hunting! " the other scavengers nodded solemnly, "We should send some initiates!" another scavenger barked, soon a ruckus commenced, all the scavengers were protesting, "My paws hurt!",
"I have cubs to feed!"
"Enough!" the loud clear bark of the alpha made everyone jump and let out a startled yelp. " The situation is as bad as it can get. " his muzzle furled with frustration, " This isn't the first time we've had this problem. Your acting like immature pups! " he glanced back at the little black wolf, his eyes were relaxed with care. Blizzard lowered his voice, " I don't care how you fix it, just take care of the problem at our paws! ", he sighed and walked away solemnly.

Darkness
Sky broke the alert silence " Hehehehehe- Bwahahahahahahaha!... Prepare for your judgement Blizzard! All of you weaklings! If you do this right, the furless are no mach for a well organized pack! " Blizzard and Thunder were about to interject, but they were interrupted, the booms grew closer. The limp head of a dear fell through the shrubbery, it lay completely still. Suddenly they heard twigs crackling, and the sounds of large footsteps.
" There here, ", though she seemed to be distracted. Blizzard seemed to forget about their feud, " I have to go, " whispered Sky,
" COWARD! " Thunder butted in, Sky fell silent as her eyes clouded with emotion,
" You're righ- " * BOOM * a piece of shrapnel came from behind a shrub.
" ERK " Sky fell to the ground, her neck matted with blood, " You're right, ", she wheezed, " I'm such a fool... I hope you can forgive me.... You probably won't, but I hope you listen carefully, if you don't stop the furless *COUGH*-*SPUTTER* they will destroy the forest, and every animal in i- " her mussels relaxed and she gazed straight ahead, her body disappeared into a plume of ash and smoke.

CHAPTER 4

Darkness
Sky gasped, as if she'd only passed out. She seemed to be falling eternally in a dark blackness. The air was dense and she could barely breathe. There was a faint flicker of light; she was heading straight for it! She hit a small patch of ground that seemed to be the only surface in this place, her vision went blurry and she passed out. For what seemed like hours, she woke up only to find a silhouette of a lean black wolf.
" Ahh, you're awake, " he seemed very calm, despite being in this nightmarish wasteland; without the land, " It's been several years since any wolf has entered my domain, "
" W-where am I- " the dark wolf interrupted slyly
" Relax, you're hysterical, after all, you have just died, "
Sky's eyes widened as large as a full moon,
" N-no, no, that's impossible, " her memory flooded into her mind, " That's right, I DID die, though I suppose... " her voice trailed off, trying to find a rational solution; maybe this was all a bad dream?
