The Bloody War

Bang! Bang! "Richie!" my friend Max screams. I duck, "Just in time," I mutter to myself. The bullets skim past my face leaving a big rip on my face. "Ouch!" I say as blood runs down my cheek, it smells like rotten flesh. Mud is everywhere in my uniform, it is in my shoes, my mouth and baked on to my skin, its horrible.

Bang! My friend Max yelps as blood runs down his arm like a pouring tap. He collapses on the muddy brown floor of the trench. I shake him, "Max! Max!" He mutters but I can't hear him. "MAX! Max!" I start to drag him to safety.

I pick up a gun to try to defend us as I look for help. "Nurse! Nurse!" I shout. I start to drag Max, leaving a trail of blood behind him. So many people were dead, lying in the mud and other soldiers screaming.

Then I can see my friends Fred and Jack they are both my best friends and both are injured, but I can only take one more! "Who do I take, Jack or Fred?" I think to myself. I shoot as someone tries to shoot us. Bang! Blood splatters everywhere .

I sit down in the mud beside my injured friends and bang my fist against the mud wall. Mud dropped onto my face, it is sloppy and it splatters down my face.

I feel so sick but I keep going. I just want to be home. I kept trying to shoot while protecting them like a mother bantam. I grab all three of them and start pulling them.
I slowly sink into the mud but I don't give up. I pull harder and harder, the mud is like sinking sand. BANG! BOOM! BANG!

I lie down in the mud then grab a piece of ripped paper out of my uniform and also grab out my favorite fountain pen. I start to write to my family, my wife Lucy, my son Ben and my daughter Emma. I tell them I love them and really miss them.
I turn around as a nurse picks Max up on a stretcher and takes him away. Suddenly my officer walks through the trench and looks at me, "Ay Richie!" the officer calls to me, "get up and fight!" I start to shoot, bang! bang! bang! bang! I turn around and look at my friends they are both dead. As I turn back to the field there is a crushed poppy under my foot. I peel it off and place in the middle of there bodies.Lest we forget.
