Very good!

Phonics

Practice practice practice!

Vocabulary

The words we have at our disposal

Types of Vocabulary

  • LISTENING - words we recognize by spoken context
  • SPEAKING - words we can use correctly while speaking
  • READING - words we comprehend as we read them
  • WRITING - familiar words we are comfortable enough with to use when writing

Comprehension

What did I just read? Why did I read it?

Part of reading comprehension is monitoring, in order to realize when you don't understand something. This requires meta-cognition skills: the power to think about your own thinking. From there you can reason to find solutions and gain understanding.
