STRUGGLES: GREAT DEPRESSION

  • Stock market crash in October 29,1929
  • The great. Depression lasted from 1929-1939
  • The stock market crash was known as Black Tuesday
  • Unemployment rose to 25%, 33% in some countries
  • WW2 brought jobs back to America

EUROPEAN STRUGGLES: ADOLF HITLER

  • 1933-1945
  • Hitler imprisoned, killed, and tortured over 6 million Jews
  • This is a picture of one of the male concentration camps
  • Jews would be sent to these camps to be tortured, experimented on, and starved
  • Scientists like Albert Einstein fled to America in hopes for safety

HELPING AMERICA WITH THE GREAT DEPRESSION

  • Helped lessen the worst effects
  • He help more people get employed
  • He supplied shelters for workers

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT

  • 32nd President
  • Only president to serve more than 8 years
  • Famous speech "Day of Infamy" launched US into WW2
  • Paralyzed waist down due to polio
  • Signed the social security system into law

THE RISE OF ADOLF HITLER

  • He was a frustrated artist, whom was rejected from art school
  • Born April 20,1889 Austria-Hungary
  • He transformed Germany into a strong nation after WW1
  • He killed close to 40-60 million people

  • Prime Minister of Italy
  • Fascist Dictator of Italy
  • Allied with Hitler in WW2
  • Formed the Axis power fought Americans and Europeans
  • Hanged by his own people, along with his girlfriend

RISE OF JOSEPH STALIN IN THE U.S.S.R

  • Stalin signed 357 proscription list in 1937 which had 400 people killed
  • His rise started in October after the revolution when tsar was taken out
  • His policy was to grow communism
  • He had a conflict with Leonard Trotsky p, who Stalin then had killed in 1940 in Mexico
  • He killed all the main powers so the leadership was left to him

HOW THESE EVENTS LED UP TO WW2

  • In 1939 Hitler extended his army to Poland, along with Italy extended to Albania
  • To protect its people Britain declared war on Germany
  • Hitler devised plans for what he considered "Jewish Problem"
  • The League of Nations failed to prevent outbreaks
  • Hitler invaded countries like France, and attempted to invade Great Britain
