ORIGIN OF BEATLES

  • Name: wanted to pay homeage to Buddy Holly & the Crickets, so they picked beetles.
  • john lennon started the band at the start and had several drummers before ringo
  • became regulars at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, played other gigs in England,
  • Used to be called querry men
  • Lennon was only 16 when he created the band, and paul was 15 when he auditioned

GAINING POPULARITY

  • Brain epstein, their manager, helped them become successful
  • Their producer, george martin, helped them produce their hit songs
  • They were one of the first boy bands to become a hit
  • Their music was new to the younger generation and it was hip
  • Young teenage girls went crazy over the guys in the band

BRITISH INVASION

  • In the 1960s when rock bands from the UK BEGAN TO influence the US culture
  • 1963 : The Washington Post published the story in the USA about The Beatles in England
  • the Beatles held the top 5 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart
  • The ed sullivan show was the first show the beatles appeared on
  • When they went on the show, no one thought they would be so influential
