THE BEATITUDES

Blessed are the poor in spirit.

This means that they are humble and quiet about what they do. They might not have a lot of friends. They look up to God.

Blessed are those who morn.

This means that they have the ability to comfort sad people. They can make people who have lost loved one’s happy again.

Blessed are the meek.

Meek means that someone is typically quiet and gentle. People who are meek are kind and considerate of other people. Jesus is meek.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

This means someone who wants to be morally good. A person who tries to do good. They do what is fair and just. They do right because they others and God.

Blessed are the merciful.

This means that they forgive others and do not hold grudges. They can forget the wrongs of others. They help people make up for their sins.

Blessed are the pure of heart.

This means they are thoughtful and know how to love God and Earth. They know to love God instead of money.
They are willing to help others with their spiritual journeies.

Blessed are the peacemakers.

This refers to someone who ends violence. They are pacifists who want people to be at peace. They want the Earth to be free of terrable things.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for their own righteousness.

This means that they were tortured for doing right. They were captured for worshiping God. In this way martyrs can be made.

Why do we have beatitudes?

The beatitudes help people see what to do better in their own lives. They are God’s tools to guide us to heaven.
