D-Day

June 6, 1944:  156,00 Allied troops land in occupied France

Normandy was secured for the Allied Forces by September 1944.

June 6, 2014 was the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

World leaders gathered in Normandy to mark the occasion.

The commemoration continues all summer.

There will be parades, concerts, parachute drops and other events.

Some sites related to the British and Canadian Invasion:

  • Musee de la Batterie de Merville
  • Sword, Juno and Gold beaches
  • British Commonwealth War Graves

Some sites related to the American invasion:

  • Omaha and Utah beaches 
  • The Airborne Museum
  • American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer
