PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE ATOMIC BOMB

  • The Manhattan project was used to create the first Atomic Bombs.
  • The project was started by Robert J Oppenheimer
  • Albert Einstein let FDR know that the germans were underway of making their own Atomic Bomb
  • This started the race for the atomic bombs

HIROSHIMA

  • The first Atom bomb, named Little Boy, was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan
  • Fat man was dropped in August of 1945 and caused extreme devestation
  • The death toll was approximated to be between 60,000 to 90,000

NAGASAKI

  • 3 days after hiroshima was bombed, Fat Man was dropped on nagasaki
  • The estimated death toll was between 60,000 and 80,000 people
  • The exact death toll is impossible because so many bodys were obliterated by the blast

THE AFTER MATH

  • People that survived had serious burns and radiation
  • The radiation caused loss of hair, bleedin,g and loss of white blood cells
  • Many people fear birth defects due to the a-bomb radiation
  • Cancer cases in Nagasaki and Hiroshima skyrocketed after the bombing
  • (I didnt want to show pictures of burn victimcs because it was nasty)

THE A-BOMBS ROLE IN THE WAR

  • Soon after the bomb in Nagasaki was dropped, japan issued total surrender
  • Many people think that the atomic bombs ended WWII
  • The japanese were terrified of another atomic bomb being dropped.
  • It was likely that the U.S. would have dropped another bomb if japan would not have surrendered
  • Our troops and supplies weere burnt out after defeating the Germans and this was a last resort

MY OPINION

  • I think that the use of atomic bombs was necessary
  • Although it caused extreme devastation, it ended the war quicker
  • We did not over use the extreme power of the Atom bomb
  • President Truman did feel bad about the dropping of the bombs
  • It was necessary and ended the war before more american lifes were lost
