THE BATTLE OF BUNKER HILL

  • June 16, 1775
  • About 1,200 militiamen set up defenses at Bunker Hill
  • Also set up defenses at nearby Breed's Hill
  • On the next day, the British stormed the hill
  • Patriots lost due to running out of gunpowder

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

  • July 4, 1776
  • Thomas Jefferson wrote the document
  • The Second Continental Congress
  • Approved the document after
  • Making some changes

THE BATTLES OF TRENTON AND PRICETON

  • December 25, 1776
  • Washington and 2,000 troops Crossed the Delaware River
  • for a suprise attack on Trenton.
  • The British sent troops, but Washington and his men rode
  • to Princeton, where they were successful.

THE BATTLE OF SERATOGA

  • The British split New England from the Middle Colonies
  • by taking control of the Hudson River valley. British
  • general John Burgoyne went to Albany, but was surrounded
  • by militiamen under General Horatio Gates. Burgoyne was
  • forced to surrender.
