He was President during the Mexican- American war.
Obtained a lot of land with the Treaty of Guadalupe.
Expansionist
Responsible for almost half of the 48 contiguous states today.

Part of one of the greatest territorial expansions of all time.
The idea of annexation was popular in the south but not in the north.
Treaty to annex Texas was submitted on April 22, 1844
The fear was that annexation of Texas would bring war with Mexico.
