Phonemic Awareness

  • Having phonemic awareness can make learning to read easier to students.
  • Phonic awareness and phonics are not the same thing.

  • Will help students recognize familiar words.
  • Can help with spelling words by sounding out the letters.

  • "The ability to read a text accurately and quickly".
  • Connects word recognition and comprehension.
  • Fluency changes.

Vocabulary

  • "The words we must know to communicate effectively".
  • 4 types of vocabulary: Writing, speaking, listening, and reading.
