PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE 1ST SUDANESE WAR

BY MICHELLE

The cause of the war was said to be a disagreement between the Christians and Muslims, Arabs and Africans, or north and south regions. ( The christian africans lived in the south and the arab muslims lived in the north).
Many factors led to and continue to be important aspects of the conflict, including religious and cultural persecution, poor economic conditions, historical differences between North and South, and misguided social and economic programs.
This happened because of a conflict between the northern part and southern part of Sudan, this begun in 1955.

The result of the conflict...
After 17 years in war, 5 hundred thousand, of which only 1 in 5 was considered an armed combatant, were killed. There was a peace agreement called the Addis Ababa Agreement which ended the war. However infringements from the north lead to increased unrest in the south.

How was it resolved?
There was a peace treaty. But it was only temporary, because fighting still continues today. Eventually South Sudan was formed and became independent 2011.

This could've been avoided if both sides were to agree to share power, be respectful to each other and bring good faith to resolve any differences.
