Temperate Grasslands

The area is dominated by grasses.

Location

  • One location is Africa and South America.
  • On flat lands,not close to water.  
  • Only grass,no trees or shrubs.

Climate

  • The grasslands are hot most of the time.
  • In summer, it is 100 degrees.
  • The Precipitation is 10 to 35 inches,most of it in late spring.
  • In winter, it is -40

Animals and Plants

  • The animals are Bison and Pronghorn.
  • Rodents include pocket gophers and prairie dogs. 
  • Carnivores include wolves,coyotes,swift foxes,badgers and black ferrets.
  • Grasses are common in the grasslands.Trees and large shrubs are absent. 
  • A few hundred flowers live in the grasslands.

Grasslands are important because they help store Carbon Dioxide.
