STATISTICS REGARDING VIOLENCE

  • In 2000, about 1,561 youth under the age of 18 were arrested for homicide.
  • In 2000, nine percent of the murders in the United States were committed by persons under the age of 18.
  • One in ten teens arrested has been engaging in a violent activity that could have resulted in the serious injury or the death of another person.

CAUSES OF TEEN VIOLENCE

  • Abuse In The Home
  • External Influences: Social Media, friends etc...
  • Gangs
  • Alcohol and Drugs

PREVENTION OF TEEN VIOLENCE

  • Recognize situations or events that are likely to escalate into violence.
  • If necessary, get help from a third party to solve differences
  • Be willing to admit and be responsible for something you may have done wrong.

WARNING SIGNS

  • Expression
  • Manipulation
  • Retaliation
  • Violence is a learned behavior
  • Gang membership or strong desire to be in a gang
