Teacher VS. Student Expectations

The aim of the study was to find out teacher and student expectations of the college, course and each other, and whether this influenced their attitudes towards it.

Who?

• Students from the sport courses were handed questionnaires
• Sports lecturers were interviewed
• To gain secondary information, journals and books were consulted

Student results

• Student motivation dropped over the year
• Teachers and college met expectations
• 50/50 had high or low expectations
• These did affect their attitudes
• Reasons: Boredom, teachers, predictable, topics

Teachers Results

• Not involved in application process
• Start the year with high expectations
• Expectations and attitude changes 
• Dependant on students behaviour and attitude
• Disheartening to teach and some students get neglected

It is a cycle that needs to be broken, teachers are directly affected by students attitude which is directly affected by the teachers !!!
