INTRUDUCTION

  • Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky
  • His era of music is baroque
  • He was born on May 7 1840 and died on November 6 1893

CHILDHOOD

  • Tchaikovsky was born on May 7 1840 in the village of Votkinsk in Russia
  • As a young boy he listened to his mother play piano. His parents noticed when he was seated at a table he moved his fingers as if it was a piano. At 5 his parents hired a private tudor for piano
  • As a child Tchaikovsky played piano
  • His mother took him to a ballet performance and that inspired his music
  • His family moved to St Petersburg capital of Russia

YOUTH

  • He was 5 when he started learning piano
  • His mother died of cholera when he was 14 and he was at school.
  • He also was studying law to please his father and when he graduated he traveled to the countryside which inspired his music

ADULTHOOD

  • Tchaikovsky got married to Antonia Ivanova Milyukova but they were divorced after 2 months and did not have a family
  • He was very cheerful as an adult
  • The divorce influenced his music
  • He was offered a position as a music teacher at the newly opened Moscow conservatory
  • He travelled all over the world and in 1892 the nutcracker was performed

MUSIC

  • His music belonged to baroque and classical
  • He wrote symphonies, concertos and ballets
  • He made Swan Lake, The Nut Cracker and Sleeping Beauty

INTERESTING FACTS

  • His mother died of cholera, the same disease that killed him
  • He took part in a music competition. He thought the deadline was in summer but it was in the winter. He won anyway.
  • His music was very popular and still is
  • He died of cholera at 53 years old. He was very wealthy when he died
