WHAT IS A TAPEWORM?

  • A parasitic flatworm
  • It infects all animals including humans
  • Happens when a human eats undercooked meats or bad
  • The infected worm or its eggs will infect the human

PREVENTIVE TIPS FOR COOKING

  • Cook pork, beef, or fish thoroughly
  • Never allow raw food to come in contact with cooked food
  • Freeze meat and fish at below 14 degrees F for 48 hours
  • Wash raw fruits and vegetables then eat them
  • Clean your work surface and kitchen equipment

PREVENTIVE TIPS FOR PETS

  • Eliminate fleas and ticks from environment
  • Confine your pets so they don't roam around
  • Don't let your dog eat dead animals
  • Avoid feeding your dog undercooked meat

  • Wash hands before and after you eat
  • Wash your hands with soap and water after using the toilet

  • Nausea, fatigue, diarrhea
  • Weakness, weight loss
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiency
  • Abdomianl pain
  • Hunger or loss of appetite

HUMAN TREATMENT FOR TAPEWORMS

  • If you suspect tapeworm, see doctor ASAP
  • Mostly use praziquantel (Biltricide) to kill tapeworm
  • The dead tape worm leaves through bowel movement
  • If the tapeworm is too big, you may have cramping as it passes
