SIBERIAN TAIGA

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

  • Location - the Siberian taiga is located near the top of the world, just below the tundra biome.
  • Description - the taiga is mostly always cold. It has a lot of coniferous trees grow.
  • Soil type - it is usually covered by permafrost or rocks underneath there is clay kind of like dirt.the ground is dry and it is also not that very rich.
  • Precipitation - the precipitation total is a year is around 30-85 cm (12-33 in). The most precipitation in the taiga is in summer.
  • Temperature range - the temperature range is -65F to 70F (-54F to 21F).

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

6. Climate it is a snow climate,has cold Arctic air from the Arctic Circle. The taiga is turned away from the sun is the winter, last for six to seven months. Fall is the shortest season .Spring brings flowers , the flower s are frozen.

BIODIVERSITY

  • Plant species- Balsam fir, Black spruce,Douglas fir ,Eastern reo cedar, Jack pine, Paper birch, Siberian spruce, White fir ,White popular , White spruce , and Evergreen Trees.
  • Animal species - Black Bear, Bald Eagle ,Bobcat ,Canadian Lynx, Gray Wolf, Grizzly Bear, Long-Eared Owl, Red Fox, River Otter,Snow Shoe Rabbit, Wolverine

PLANT ADAPTATIONS

  • Plants adaptations- evergreen have a shape to prevent damage .Their branches drop down the shed excess snow.
  • Taiga plants have needles to help keep water inside the dark casing .
  • They have dark green color to absorb heat because of cold temperature .

ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS

  • Animals - bears have many layers to survive in the winter,the Lynx has wide paws to walk in snow.
  • Animals hibernate during winter

  • Taiga is the Russian word for forest and the largest biome in the world. Stretches over Eurasia and North America
  • The Taiga is also know as the boreal forest. Did you know that boreal was the Greek goodness of the North wind?
  • Most trees grow sideways where roots can get as nutrients needed.
